1A. PROBLEM

Music Theory can be complicated to understand and learn. There is a lot to remember and keep track of. For musicians interested in music theory, it’s nice to have a reference and learning tool that is quick to access and easy to use. It’s also nice to have a tool that musicians can use when writing music that will help them creatively with their songwriting process.

1B. SOLUTION

Intervals offers a clean and fun interactive interface that offers the most used and important features in one easy to use and visually appealing mobile app.

1C

User Research

I started with defining the requirements and conducting user surveys and user interviews along with a competitive analysis.

1D

User Personas

The results of the research informed my creation of three different user personas.

2B

User Flows

I started working through how best to present the information that is most important to the users. Sketching wireframes helped me quickly get an idea of layout options. I settled on a non-scrollable design, simply starting with choosing a note and cascading from there.

I translated my sketches to digital wireframes. The app focuses on the building blocks of harmony and melody… scales and chords. How are chords formed? What intervals make up a certain scale? How are certain scales related? Three main screens provide easy and quick access to this information.

Branding

I have worked out how best to present the information. Next I work on developing it out and designing the look and feel.
